Military time is the 24-hour clock written as four digits with no colon. The day starts at 0000, morning hours keep their number with a leading zero, and from 1 PM onward you add 12. So 9:15 AM is 0915 and 2:30 PM is 1430.
It is said in hours and minutes, not with a colon. 1430 is "fourteen thirty hours", 0800 is "zero eight hundred hours" and 0005 is "zero zero zero five hours". Using a single clock with no AM or PM avoids mistakes, which is why hospitals, airlines and the armed forces use it.
Two times cause most confusion. Midnight at the start of a day is 0000, and noon is 1200. 12:45 AM is 0045, not 1245. When in doubt, look the hour up in the chart below.
Military units often add a letter for the time zone, such as Z for Zulu, which is UTC. This converter does not change zones. To get Zulu time, convert your local time to UTC first, then write it in four digits.

If the hours are 13 or more, subtract 12 and add PM. 1700 is 5:00 PM. Hours from 01 to 11 are AM, 12 is noon and 00 is midnight.
0000, said "zero hundred hours" or "zero zero hundred". Some people write 2400 for the end of a day.
"Zero eight hundred hours". A leading zero is spoken.
Yes, apart from the format. The 24-hour clock writes 14:30, and military time drops the colon: 1430.
