About this hub

Money questions that come up every week: what a discount really saves after GST, which pack is cheaper per gram, what gold or silver costs today, and how far your savings would stretch. Each tool shows the formula, so you can check the shop's figure yourself.

Gold, silver and currency start with a live market rate, cached for an hour or so. The rate is a starting point: type the rate on your bill or your jeweller's board for an exact figure.

Questions

Where do the live rates come from?

Currency uses the European Central Bank reference rates. Gold and silver use the world spot price from gold-api.com, converted to rupees, plus India's 6% import duty. Your local shop's rate can differ a little.

Why is the jeweller's rate higher than the rate shown?

Shops add their margin and the city rate can differ. GST at 3% and making charges are added separately in the tool, so compare like with like.

Can I use these tools for my business?

Yes for quick checks such as margin, markup and unit price. For accounts and tax filing, use your accountant's figures.
