Twelve lakh thirty-four thousand five hundred sixty-seven rupees and fifty paise
On a cheque: Twelve Lakh Thirty-four Thousand Five Hundred Sixty-seven Rupees and Fifty Paise Only.
Banks ask for the amount in words on a cheque because words are harder to alter than digits. If the words and the figures disagree, many banks go by the words, so it pays to get them right.
India groups digits differently from most of the world. After the thousands, it counts in twos: 1,00,000 is one lakh and 1,00,00,000 is one crore. So 12,34,567 is “twelve lakh thirty-four thousand five hundred sixty-seven”, while the same number written 1,234,567 is “one million two hundred thirty-four thousand five hundred sixty-seven”.
For money, the whole part and the decimals are written separately. ₹1,500.50 is “one thousand five hundred rupees and fifty paise”. On a cheque, add “only” at the end and start each word with a capital letter, which the tool does for you.
The converter handles numbers up to 999 trillion. Without a currency it reads decimals digit by digit, so 3.14 becomes “three point one four”.

In everyday use people say lakh crore: 1,00,000 crore is one lakh crore, or one trillion.
Cheques in India and the US usually leave it out except before the paise or cents. British English often writes “one hundred and twenty”.
